Dozens of Northern Ireland food producers have been chosen to take part in a new initiative from Tesco. Over the coming months Tesco Northern Ireland is running local food markets in its larger stores. The markets initiative is part of the ongoing Tesco Taste Northern Ireland campaign aimed at supporting Northern Ireland food and its producers. Each event will feature up to 22 producers who will create ‘sampling streets’ in-store so that customers can see, taste and get to know more about the products. The first of these events was staged at Tesco Knocknagoney in Belfast when 15 companies displayed their products.
Caoimhe Mannion, Marketing Manager for Tesco NI, said: “The local markets are a great way for our customers to engage with producers and try some of their delicious products. “The markets are also a great opportunity for local companies to increase awareness and sales.” Tesco spends more than £500million on Northern Ireland products each year, it has more than 90 local suppliers and it stocks more than 1,200 local products.
