In these difficult economic times, it was a pleasure to hear the Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster announce that GR White & Son Ltd in Fermanagh have secured an export contract worth £1.3 million to provide electrical services for the headquarters building of the Edinburgh tram system project.

A newcomer to Serious’ client base, the father and son company, provides electrical installation services to the industrial, commercial and domestic sectors in NI, RoI and UK and has recently extended to electrical design.

In the small village of Tempo, Fermanagh, GR White & Son Ltd have been running now for 30 years, and recently received Invest NI support to assist with the recruitment of a quantity surveyor and increase marketing activities.

The minister, who spoke at today’s event, said: “Securing this contract is a significant milestone for GR White & Son and reflects its focus on increasing export sales. It is particularly GR White and Son - major contract announcement photo 1 11.09.09encouraging to see local companies continuing to grow and succeed despite the current economic difficulties. GR White & Son is an excellent example of a well established, forward looking company that has recognised the need to continue to add value to its services in order to remain competitive.”

Work for the Edinburgh contract is due to start in October 2009 with an estimated completion date of October 2010. We know in these turbulent times the difficulties around securing employment, so it was excellent news to hear that the company anticipates that this contract has the potential to create up to 20 new jobs.

Speaking at the event today, George White, company director of GR White and Son Ltd said:

“Our strategy going forward is to focus our resources on developing the design and installation of high specification road and street lighting systems, particularly for the Republic of Ireland and Scotland markets. The support we received from Invest NI via its Western Regional Office was both valuable and timely, enabling us to further develop our range of services and raise the profile of the company in our target markets.”

We wish them every success in their Edinburgh project.
