Northern Ireland company Portview Fit-Out provided the specialist retail interiors for GENEU, the world’s first in-store DNA test for skin health that delivers a customer’s unique profile in 30 minutes to create personalised skincare customised to the individual’s genes and lifestyle.
The ambitious interior re-fit of the flagship GENEU store required the specialist combined talents of Belfast-based Portview Fit-Out, project management company Karen Higgins Projects, concept designers Imagination Design Studios, and quantity surveyors Ainsley and Partners, who came together to interpret and deliver the client’s vision for GENEU.
Portview Contracts Manager, PJ Ward, says: “Portview Fit-Out, working in partnership with the concept designers, project managers and quantity surveyors, began work at the New Bond Street location, which is part of London’s designer district, in June completing in July. The interior fit-out for GENEU was incredibly specialised as it is a brand new consumer concept, which features scientifically advanced equipment – some of which was imported from America. It was our job to design and build the interiors and bring the concept to reality, which we did very successfully. We are very proud to be part of this global first.”
Portview Fit-Out moved into the former retail premises in New Bond Street in the summer, stripping out the space to the ground floor and basement level, installing a damp proof course and new screed floor in preparation for GENEU. Specialist pods, where the GENEU DNA tests will be conducted, were then fitted before a test area was added to the basement along with custom-made counters finished with modern, technically advanced finishes, an integral high tech computer screen and a gateway unit where the DNA samples are placed at the correct temperature for 30 minutes during analysis to generate a client’s unique U⁺ profile and personalised product recommendation.
Portview Managing Director, Simon Campbell, commented: “Our experience, track record and relationships in the high-end London market expose us to some interesting challenges and opportunities and this project in particular has allowed us to bring another first to market for a cutting edge client. Bringing the same consistent approach of dedicated service and team work with the client’s wider team allows us to translate the quality required into even the most unusual of projects. Overcoming obstacles to give the client what they want is what we excel at and this is a fine example of the success such an approach brings.”
GENEU’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Professor Christofer Toumazou, Regius Professor at Imperial College London and Fellow of the Royal Society, has used 20 years of medical research to bring this scientific breakthrough to the future of skincare in the beauty industry. GENEU introduces the U+ Microchip, the world’s first in-store DNA test that delivers a customer’s unique profile in 30 minutes to create personalised skincare customised to their lifestyle. This ground breaking innovation has led to Professor Toumazou being awarded the prestigious title of 2014 ‘European Inventor of the Year’ for his U+ Microchip technology used in the GENEU DNA profiling test.
