The academy, which is supported by leading retailer Tesco, is staging a series of rugby camps across Northern Ireland this summer.Aimed at kids aged between seven and 14 and open to both boys and girls, the camps will educate participants in both rugby skills and the lifestyle choices required to become a top player.

Paddy explained: “I have enjoyed a great rugby career and I feel now is the right time to give something back.

“I am looking forward to being able to pass on my knowledge to others and I am delighted that Tesco is supporting the camps. Tesco is an organisation with its roots firmly planted in the local community, and it’s a great champion of getting kids active, so I believe it’s a perfect partner for the academy.”
He added: “These camps will not just be about skills. They will also look at nutrition, discipline, decision making and other attributes needed to become a top player. I want to give participants a taste of what professional players do on a daily basis.”

The camps are being staged in Holywood, Belfast (two), Bangor and Coleraine in July/August.

The veteran professional player has been whetting his appetite for coaching by staging training sessions for pupils at Rockport School, near Holywood, over the past year. And the 34-year-old back is close to completing his Level 3 IRB coaching badge, too.

Caoimhe Mannion, Marketing Manager for Tesco NI, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Paddy Wallace Rugby Academy. We are strong advocates of young people getting involved in sport and exercising more, and we believe these camps will be a great way for kids to not only hone their skills on the rugby pitch but also to get an insight into what it takes to become a top player.”

The Paddy Wallace Rugby Academy supported by Tesco will be running camps at the following venues this summer: Holywood RFC, July 23-25; Belfast Harlequins RFC, July 28-Aug 1; Civil Service RFC, Belfast, Aug 4-8; Bangor RFC, Aug 11-15; Coleraine RFC, Aug 22-18.
