One Friday Afternoon

What better way to spend a break on a Friday afternoon than with a cake from Moira Bakery, and a nice cup of tea? That’s what happened in the Serious PR office, when Alison, Jools, Katie and Róisín began to feel the end of week lethargy that is so common after numerous client meetings, report writing and statistical analysis. And what a joyous 15 minutes it was. On Róisín’s instruction, the staff gathered in the front office whilst she popped out for the cakes: two raspberry cream tarts for Alison and Jools, a Fifteen for Katie and a chocolate éclair for Róisín.

For the unconverted, a Fifteen is a Northern Irish cake made up of glacé cherries, marshmallows surrounded by a sort of soft biscuit. Both Jools and Katie are fans of this speciality; embracing the novelty of Northern Irish food culture from their respective Chester and Alyth in Perthshire. Having not had a Fifteen in over a year, Katie was very excited when she received the cakey delicacy from Róisín’s bag of treats, but was unable to judge it comparatively as she couldn’t well remember the last one. However, she thoroughly enjoyed it nevertheless, though it was no deep fried Mars bar- only joking, they‘re rank! Maybe something that Moira Main Street should look into selling, so that Katie can do a NI vs. Scotland deep-fried Mars bar comparison??

Alison and Jools received their foil clad pastry cases filled with a plethora of raspberry goodness, including jam, creamy “stuff” and thick pink icing. Both thought that there was just a little too much pastry, and crumbled a lot from the edges before quickly scoffing the lot. Alison had recommended this cake to Jools, so was experienced in the way of raspberry creams, and enjoyed the extreme sweetness. Jools enjoyed it, but thought that the jam could have been a little more tart in order to create the perfect combination with the sweet cream and icing.

Róisín had the winning combination of choux pastry, chocolate and whipped cream in her chocolate éclair, and despite enjoying its creamy goodness, Róisín didn’t feel that it was particularly differentiated from other éclairs she’d had in the past.

And of course, the pot of tea made by Róisín was enjoyed by all (apart from Katie who isn’t a caffeine addict like the others and enjoyed a nice glass of juice).

Another Serious trip to Moira Bakery definitely necessary to make more comparisons!
