Belfast’s first pop-up apartment used to launch new style of city centre living
A modern new concept in property, inspired by how city dwellers live across the globe, was launched in Northern Ireland today.
Designed by a new property company Never Monday set up by leading developer Alan Fraser, the proposed scheme will bring a funky new style of city centre living to Belfast, where the emphasis is on design and convenience.
The essence of these futuristic new pads referred to as “intelligent living spaces” is in the clever design which utilises every square inch so that there is a generous feeling of space but with low maintenance. Inspired by similar boutique style homes which are popular in large cities across the world, these precision-engineered studio and one bed designer apartments offer a lifestyle choice to prospective buyers with all the facilities for work, rest and play on their doorstep.
The full turnkey homes include everything you need for modern living right down to designer bespoke furniture and flat screen wall mounted TVs and ipod.
Situated in what is being called The M Building in Montgomery Street, right in the heart of the city centre at BT1, work has started on 48 apartments which will be served by a ground floor coffee shop, communal laundry facilities, a fitness room, modern rooftop designer garden and bicycle park offering buyers the option of helping the environment by walking or cycling from their city centre location.
So radical is the concept that the developer has designed and built a full scale “pop-up pod” replica situated at Victoria House in Gloucester Street, adjacent to where the M Building will be located, so that people can fully appreciate the overall feeling of space and modern design.
Alan Fraser, who owns Never Monday, said he would like to add a new dimension to new property design in Northern Ireland with Never Monday’s niche new lifestyle approach.
“As a progressive company with many years of experience in international property development, we have seen how similar apartments work right across the world,” said Mr Fraser.
“We are convinced that Belfast is ready for something which we feel is progressive and part of our future.
“Everything is included so that all the new buyer has to do is move in.”
The new homes have been competitively priced starting at £79,950 and Mr Fraser is confident that Never Monday’s unique selling points will prove popular with first time buyers, business people and retirees.
He said: “Never Monday is unlike anything else available in the city and initial feedback from what we see as a fresh new concept in home design, especially from the business community, has been very positive.
“It offers the opportunity to enjoy all the convenience of city centre living at a price which can’t be beaten. Similar homes in other cities are being snapped up and have been singled out for multi-industry awards for their innovation and design.
“We believe Belfast is ready for the sophistication and progressiveness which Never Monday represents. We also see it as a positive move which can only benefit the economy and the property market in Northern Ireland. Indeed this development will bring much needed work for over 100 direct and indirect jobs to a beleaguered construction industry.”
The size of the living spaces is not something with which Mr. Fraser believes buyers will have an issue.
He said: “What you are buying here is a lifestyle and the reason we designed the “pop-up pod” is so that people can see first-hand how the special engineering involved at the design stage has created an apartment that is big on space while compact in overall size.
“All of the utilities are hidden to liberate space and physically there is a freedom of movement while visually there are unhindered views in every direction.
“Modern lifestyle demands have changed considerably and people now want comfort and convenience which Never Monday offers them along with a touch of luxury living.”
An initial deposit of £500 secures one of the new apartments.
Simon Brien, Director of BTW Cairns who are selling agents for the properties said: “We have been involved in most of the residential apartment schemes in Belfast over the past seven years and undoubtedly the Never Monday development is launching is radically different to anything we have seen before.
“This is due to the combination of highly competitive and affordable pricing combined with high quality architectural design in what will become one of Belfast’s new contemporary buildings. Internally the apartments have been exceptionally cleverly designed with well planned, high specification turnkey packages and an excellent range of amenities for residents.
“Without doubt, this combination will make Never Monday unique to Belfast and with the most important criteria to home buyers in today’s market being value, we are most excited about the launch and confident of the appeal to buyers and success of the scheme.”
The scheme was welcomed by Mark Finlay, Chairman of Economic Strategy, South Belfast Partnership Board who said: “With investments and initiatives such as Never Monday, Belfast is fast becoming the contemporary European regional capital that Policy has always said we need to create.
“People are putting their money where their mouth is and are increasingly attracted to live right in the heart of the city centre where they enjoy access to great jobs and opportunities and a host of café, restaurants and vibrant music and cultural scene.
“This unique living concept is perfect for the people being attracted to the city from far and wide to work for the many new international technology, professional and financial services companies clustering between City Hall and the Waterfront.
“The business community has been swelled by companies like Allen & Overy, NYSE Euronext and Herbert Smith, joining the likes of AllState, Liberty and Fujitsu. I am aware of at least three major US investors currently considering adding to this roster. Top employers need to attract the best employees, with both a great living environment and working environment. Convenience, amenities and vibrancy are the key. Never Monday adds to an already attractive mix.”
Belfast restaurateur and celebrity chef Michael Deane also welcomed the scheme as something positive for the city. He said: “Belfast always seems to lag behind other international cities so it’s great news to hear of something so forward thinking and positive.
“The city is vibrant and Never Monday can only add to that buzz and the whole lifestyle that comes with city centre living.”
Tom McClelland of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors added: “We welcome the jobs creation in the construction sector and the drive to encourage people to live in the city centre.
“Urban regeneration is about people living, working and relaxing in the city.”
