On the stairway to success: Acheson & Glover’s Managing Director Raymond Acheson (right) and Commercial Director Stuart Cook look forward to celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary with a number of innovative initiatives planned for 2010.

A Northern Ireland company can look back on 2009 with the satisfaction of knowing that a recent run of orders totalling in excess of £7million will help secure the future of its business in GB and Ireland through 2010 and beyond.

Based in Fivemiletown and with a number of operations in the UK and RoI, Acheson & Glover is a leading manufacturer of paving and flags, masonry blocks, retaining walls, bricks (including a mortarless brick system), hollowcore flooring, precast stairs, concrete, blocks and quarried stone.

Current contracts include a £1million order at Manchester Metropolitan University’s new campus; a shopping centre and multi-story car park in Balbriggan; a teaching block at Bath University and a football stadium in Morecambe.

Other recently completed contracts include £2 million car parks in Manchester and Crewkerne in Somerset; a Sixth Form College in Stoke-on-Trent and numerous schools throughout GB.

Acheson & Glover also proved themselves ahead of the game when it came to designing and supplying specialised concrete products for the new 80,000-seat Olympics Stadium in London.

They were the only company in the UK able to supply 500mm deep hollowcore slabs (specially designed to take extra heavy loads) for use in the podium deck surrounding the massive stadium in a contract worth £250,000. A number of other Olympics contracts also showcased the high quality of work that is the trademark of Acheson & Glover.

“The construction industry has certainly suffered badly during the last 12 months but at Acheson & Glover we have worked hard to ensure we continue to provide the highest standards of design and product manufacture,” said the company’s Commercial Director Stuart Cook.

“These major contract wins are a result of that commitment and they have really helped to secure the future of the business in these difficult times.”

Managing Director Raymond Acheson is also looking forward to celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary this year. “Fifty years ago we started off as a family run business with a genuine commitment to quality, customer service and pride in the job,” said Raymond. “Since then the company has grown to become a market leader in the manufacture and supply of concrete products in GB and Ireland.

“With the majority of our business located within the professional construction market, we have developed such an extensive range of products that we have become a one stop solutions provider for architects, specifiers and builders throughout the UK and Ireland and throughout the years we have maintained the same set of core values that have stood us in good stead through good times and bad.”

In addition to marking the award winning company’s success over the past 50 years, Raymond Acheson has his eyes set firmly on the future, with the company currently undergoing a rebranding process and only last spring launching its new ‘Outside Rooms’ concept with newly refurbished outlets at Dungannon, Toome, Fivemiletown, Bangor and Omagh distributing domestic paving and walling products directly to consumers.
