‘Apple’ award further boosts firm’s ‘green’ credentials

Acheson & Glover, was presented with a Green Apple environmental award by former Bond girl Alexandra Bastedo at a special presentation ceremony held recently at the Houses of Parliament. Collecting the award were Stuart Cook, Commercial Director with Acheson and Glover and Risk Manager, Aaron Currie.

A GREEN Apple has certainly proved good for the environmental health of one Northern Ireland company which has just picked up a prestigious environmental award in London.

Acheson and Glover, who will have been manufacturing its extensive range of concrete products for  50 years next year, won the top award for its environmentally-friendly and cost-effective recycling  project at its Ballygawley flooring factory.

The scheme, which also earned Acheson & Glover a Quarry Products Association NI Environmental Award of the Year, involved crushing and recycling waste concrete back into aggregate form, to use again in a new mix.

Aaron Currie, Risk Manager with Acheson &  Glover, said, “As with any concrete manufacturing process, Acheson and Glover was faced with the costly challenge of legally disposing of concrete waste products which did not meet the required standards of its rigorous Quality Assurance Controls.

Following on from the success of the Ballygawley project, Acheson & Glover now intends to carry out a similar exercise at its Hollowcore Flooring Factory in Magherafelt by recycling a further 10,000 tonnes of concrete waste product.
